GUWAHATI: The historic Guwahati Cine Club was established in 1965. It is organizing the 15th edition of the International Guwahati Film Festival from December 23 to 29 at the Kankalal Barua Hall of the Assam State Museum. This film festival is held in December every year as a calendar event of the club but for the past three years, it was held in February due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 21 films from India and abroad will be screened at the week-long festival. The opening film will be 'Noi' (2021) / 102 minutes / Assamese by Rima Bora, which is her second full-length movie. Four films by famous Sri Lankan film director Ashok Hindagama will be screened. His Alborada (The Dawning of the Day) 2021 / 108 minutes / will be screened as the closing film. Besides Sri Lanka, films from Brazil, Egypt, Portugal, Nepal, Bangladesh, Ecuador, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kannada, Hindi, Manipuri and Bengali films from West Bengal will also be screened.
The 15th International Guwahati Film Festival will be dedicated to the memory of the late Pulak Gogoi, a prominent film director, painter and member of the Guwahati Cine Club. His popular film Srimati Mahimamayi / 1971 101 minutes will be screened in tribute to him.
Aparajit / 2022 / 138 minutes / Bengali / India, directed by Anik Dutta to mark the centenary of the birth of the great film director Ray, will be screened on Sunday evening.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark the 75th anniversary of India's independence will be organised with a video competition on patriotic songs. The four winners of the competition will be awarded at the closing ceremony of the festival.
Delegate cards will be provided for the festival. The temporary office of the festival will be opened on December 23 at the premises of Kankalal Barua Hall. The Guwahati Cine Club President AK Absar Hazarika and Secretary Madhurima Barua sincerely request all members and film lovers to attend the festival on all days and make it a success.
