GUWAHATI: A massive protest erupted in Guwahati on Saturday as residents, students, and business owners expressed their frustration against Gautam and Anupam Constructions, the company responsible for building the Noonmati-Guwahati flyover. The protesters, led by various organizations including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), gathered at Silpukhuri to demand safety measures, dust control, and compensation for affected businesses.

“The construction company has been accused of blatant disregard for rules and regulations, putting the lives of commuters at risk. The service roads have become unsafe and unfit for travel, with large potholes and no barricades in place,” said a member of DYFI.

“The entire stretch is covered in dust, and no efforts have been made to remove it. Furthermore, businesses in the area have suffered significant losses due to the ongoing construction, but no compensation has been provided to the affected shopkeepers,” said a member of CITU.

The protesters have warned that if the company does not take immediate corrective measures to ensure public safety and provide compensation to affected businesses, a fresh wave of protests will be launched. The demonstration is a clear indication of the growing frustration among residents against the negligent construction company.
