GUWAHATI: The move to introduce e-ticketing system in city buses from today has evoked mixed response from people. While commuters are happy that such a system has been introduced, bus staff, especially handymen, feel that the e-ticketing system should not have been introduced without first training them on how to use the e-ticketing machines.
City buses on Tuesday started issuing e-tickets to passengers for collection of fare in Guwahati. Last month, the transport department of the Kamrup (metro) district had made e-ticketing machines mandatory in all city buses from November 1. Guwahati bus owners were asked to acquire e-ticketing machines for providing e-tickets to passengers.
The order passed by the transport department stated,"It is a general information dispatched to all owners and association of city buses that from 1/11/2022 onwards buses will not be allowed to ply on the road without e-ticketing machine for issuing e-ticket to collect fare from travelling passengers."
From today, passengers travelling by city bus will get an e-ticket against the kilometers they are travelling. The rates have already been fixed and the e-ticketing machines will generate the e-tickets as per the already decided rates. The transport department is ensuring strict enforcement of the new system. Buses without the machines will not be allowed to ply.
Transport department officials today conduct checks at various bus stops to ensure that city buses are equipped with e-ticketing machines. The officials also created awareness among passengers, urging them not to travel in a city bus which does not issue e-tickets.
