GUWAHATI: The Paltan Bazar Police Station, in coordination with Birubari Outpost and other staff, conducted a raid on a scrap yard owned by Akhtar Hussain, located at R.K. Mission Road, Birubari. The raid resulted in the recovery of a massive stash of stolen items, including electrical wires, copper coils, brass sockets, and other valuable materials.
The stolen goods recovered during the operation include 557 kg of aluminium electric wire, 15 kg of aluminium coil, 430 kg of copper coil and wire, and 153 kg of aluminium wire wrapped in plastic. Additionally, the police also recovered 58 kg of new brass sockets, oil lamps, brass bells, and glasses used in temples for worship, and other items.
The police have apprehended five individuals in connection with the theft, including Md. Akhtar Ali, the scrap yard owner; Md. Matleb Ali; Biswajit Rabha; Rajib Das; and Brajen Barman. The accused are residents of different areas in Guwahati and other districts of Assam.
The raid was conducted based on specific information regarding the stockpiling of stolen items in the scrap yard. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter further.
