Guwahati: Journalist Dilwar Hussain Mazumdar was granted bail by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court, Kamrup (Metro), on Friday in the second case (111/2025) registered against him at Panbazar police station. The bail was granted against a surety of Rs 20,000. However, despite securing bail, Mazumdar will not be released today due to delays in bail bond submission, and he will remain in judicial custody for the day.
Meanwhile, Mazumdar had earlier secured bail in the first case but was subsequently arrested again by Panbazar Police in connection to his second case on Thursday. On Friday morning, Panbazar Police conducted two raids at his residence in Ghoramara and his business establishment.
Information and Public Relations (IPR) Minister Pijush Hazarika, while talking to media, raised questions about Mazumdar's roles as a journalist, lawyer, and businessman. He said, "I have questioned the secretary and president of Gauhati Press Club about how one person can be a journalist, lawyer, and businessman simultaneously. I have not received the reply as yet.".
