GUWAHATI: As per reports, the 'Dighalipukhuri' in Guwahati, has been renamed the 'Entartica' Dighalipukhuri. This comes in the wake of accusations that the Assam government leased the tourism destination to an outside business.
The cost of entering Dighalipukhuri has increased along with the renaming. Tickets now cost Rs 20 per person, up from Rs 10. The name 'Entartica' is listed next to Dighalipukhuri on the tickets.
The historic Dighalipukhuri Lake in Guwahati was previously turned over by the Assam tourism department to a private Gujarati business for management, development, and operations for the following 15 years. The reports that were circulating were refuted by Jayanta Malla Barua, Minister of Tourism, who claimed they were untrue.
It should be noted that Assam's Minister of Tourism Jayanta Mallabaruah dispelled rumours that Dighalipukhuri will be sold to a third party on Saturday. Jayanta Mallabaruah announced this in a tweet, stating that the Dighalipukhuri would continue to be managed by the state tourism department. The minister also advised people to keep quiet about the tragedy.
Jayanta Mallabaruah announced this via a tweet on Saturday, stating that the Dighalipukhuri would continue to be managed by the state tourism department. An official document, however, made various claims. According to a ticket that has been circulated over social media indicated that the department had given the Ahmedabad-based ECHT Conglomerate Pvt Ltd the development, operation, and management control of the water activities, the café, and the children's park at Dighalipukhuri Lake.
As per reports, it should be noted that Entartica Seaworld in Ahmedabad is also owned by ECHT Conglomerate Pvt Ltd. They designated Dighalipukhuri as one of their own endeavours as a result. Because the subject was not given much attention by the relevant minister or authorities, the most recent decision has now sparked yet another wave of confusion and dissatisfaction among the general public.
In 2022, the Assam government proposes a lengthy, approximately 6-kilometer flyover project between Dighalipukhuri and Bamunimaidan in Guwahati. The Arya Nagar Flyover, which was ceremonially opened on September 2022 and has a length of 790 metres and an estimated cost of Rs 149.07 crore, was completed. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma oversaw its construction.
