GUWAHATI: Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu on Tuesday launched the free textbook distribution for the academic year 2025-26. This year, 52,91,707 students from 9 mediums will receive 3,41,78,581 textbooks. Speaking at the event, Dr. Pegu said that the Education Department aims to provide textbooks to all schools, including those in remote areas. He also mentioned that additional transportation costs have been allocated for such areas to ensure timely delivery of textbooks.
Dr. Pegu further emphasized the importance of monitoring the distribution process and instructed school inspection centres to keep a close watch on the same. He also urged the Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation to make textbooks available in e-book format, keeping pace with the digital age.
Other dignitaries present at the event included A. S. T. P. P. C. L. chairman Devananda Hazarika, A. S. H. S. E. B. Chairman Ramesh Jain, and others.
