PALASBARI: The Centre for Legal Studies, Girijananda Chowdhury University, organized the first Lex Imperium Moot Court competition on Saturday, marking the beginning of an annual tradition aimed at fostering legal excellence among aspiring law students. The event, held in association with Dispur Law College, featured a total of 18 teams from across Assam and Meghalaya showcasing their legal acumen and argumentative skills.
The competition was judged by a number of practicing lawyers and distinguished legal experts, including eminent Gauhati High Court advocates, such as Sarfaraz Nawaz, Kishore Kalita, and A.S. Tapadar. It was structured into three rigorous rounds, each designed to test different aspects of legal knowledge and advocacy.
The event commenced with an inspiring opening ceremony, graced by Justice Kalyan Rai Surana, Judge of the Gauhati High Court, as the guest of honour.
Justice Surana emphasized the importance of moot court competitions in nurturing advocacy skills and preparing students for real-world legal challenges. As part of the ceremony, he also formally inaugurated the Moot Court Hall, a state-of-the-art facility designed to simulate real courtroom experiences.
