GUWAHATI: GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) has started an eviction drive on the roads of Guwahati in the run-up to Advantage Assam 2.0, slated for February 25 and 26, 2025.
Officials of the civic body have been evicting roadside vendors in the Hatigaon and Ganeshguri areas in the city since last night. They use JCB excavators to dismantle street vendors' structures.
According to GMC sources, this eviction drive on city roads will continue for a few days at night.
Meanwhile, the street vendors in Guwahati rue the fact that they have to bear the brunt when anything happens in Guwahati. "As and when the government holds any big summits in Guwahati, we have to pay heavy prices. This happens as the civic body continues to delay in providing us vending zones. The government should know that we have hungry mouths to feed," a vendor said.
