GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Saturday imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on a resident of Beltola Survey for burning garbage in the open.
“Open burning of garbage contributes to air pollution and can severely affect the respiratory health of citizens. It is our duty to ensure the city remains clean and safe,” said a GMC official. “We urge all residents to dispose of waste through proper channels and to avoid practices that endanger the environment.”
The civic body has been conducting awareness drives and enforcement campaigns across the city to address issues related to waste management.
