Guwahati: In a decisive move to enhance urban cleanliness and discourage public littering, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched a rigorous crackdown across the city, penalizing multiple offenders under its ongoing sanitation enforcement campaign.
As part of the drive, a fine of Rs 500 was imposed on a resident of R.K. Mission Road for discarding garbage on the street. At Bharalumukh, another individual faced a penalty of Rs 1,000 for dumping waste directly by the roadside.
In a more severe violation, a hefty fine of Rs 40,000 was slapped on an individual for discharging boring materials into a public drain at Juripar Path — an action that poses a serious threat to the city’s drainage infrastructure and could potentially trigger urban flooding. The civic body has reiterated its appeal to citizens to refrain from indiscriminate dumping of waste, particularly ahead of the monsoon season when efficient drainage becomes crucial.
“Let’s work together to keep our city clean,” a GMC official said, urging residents to dispose of waste responsibly and support Guwahati’s sanitation mission. The Corporation further warned that stringent action will continue to be taken against those violating cleanliness norms, underlining its commitment to a cleaner and more hygienic urban environment.
