Guwahati: In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has commenced de-silting operations along the inner drain near the Fish Market in Paltan Bazar. This initiative is part of the civic body’s broader flood-prevention strategy to tackle water-logging in the city’s busy commercial and residential zones.
GMC workers are clearing accumulated silt and debris to ensure the free flow of rainwater, thereby reducing the risk of flash floods. A GMC official highlighted the need for collective responsibility, urging shopkeepers to maintain cleanliness and avoid improper waste disposal. The corporation also appealed to the public to refrain from dumping solid waste into drains—one of the major causes of urban flooding. Through these timely and coordinated efforts, GMC aims to enhance the city’s drainage resilience ahead of the rainy season.
