Guwahati: Illicit liquor and drugs seized in city

In a series of raids, the city police have successfully busted illicit liquor and drug sales in various parts of the city.

GUWAHATI: In a series of raids, the city police have successfully busted illicit liquor and drug sales in various parts of the city. In the first incident, a team from Gorchuk Police Station raided Bagurumba Hotel near ISBT and seized 33 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). Three individuals, Ranjit Daimary, Ratneswar Basumatary, and Raben Boro, all residents of Bathouguri, were apprehended, and legal action has been initiated against them.

In another incident, a team from Satgaon Police Station acted on a tip-off and raided a shop near the Oil India Railway Line, seizing 12 vials of heroin weighing 12.32 grams. The accused, Gulzar Hussain (28), was apprehended and is currently facing legal action.

Meanwhile, a team from Latasil Police Station foiled a major drug consignment at Silpukhuri, seizing 1,010 grams of heroin packed in 27 soap cases. The accused, Sahid Ahmed (20) of Silchar, was caught red-handed along with a mobile handset, a SIM card, Rs 380 in cash, and a railway ticket. Ahmed is now facing legal action and has been taken into custody.
