Guwahati: Information Commissioner’s Annual Meet to be held Today

The National Federation of Information Commissions in India (NFICI) is set to host its 14th Annual General Body and 32nd Board of Governors meeting on April 8 in Guwahati.

GUWAHATI: The National Federation of Information Commissions in India (NFICI) is set to host its 14th Annual General Body and 32nd Board of Governors meeting on April 8 in Guwahati. This event aims to promote transparency and accountability in governance, aligning with the objectives of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005.

The event will be inaugurated by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, at 11am on April 8. The meetings will be held at AAU Campus, Khanapara.

Heeralal Samariya, CIC, Central Information Commission, serves as the president of NFICI, while Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta (Retd.) leads the Assam Information Commission as the State Chief Information Commissioner.

The Board consists of seven members and the president, with representatives from Bihar, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Manipur, and Odisha.

Established on September 1, 2009, NFICI facilitates coordination and mutual consultation among Central and State Information Commissions. Its primary objectives include exchanging information on laws and landmark judgements, collecting and analysing data on the implementation of the RTI Act, and promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
