GUWAHATI: Thousands of Jal Mitras, temporary employees of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, staged a massive protest in Hengrabari, Guwahati, on Thursday, demanding job regularization, timely payments, and recognition for their contributions to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). The protest, which gheraoed the headquarters of the Public Health Department, prompted heavy police deployment.
The workers, who came from various districts of Assam, expressed their frustration over unfulfilled promises by the state government. They accused officials of neglecting their demands despite their crucial role in ensuring access to clean drinking water in rural areas.
