Guwahati: Junior Engineer Held For Taking Bribe

A person named Kirtikamal Tamuli from Tezpur was asked for money by Debashis Das in order to release the fund against the construction of a road in 2020.

Guwahati: Assam Police Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Wing on Wednesday caught red-handed Debashis Das, JE, Directorate of Municipal Administration for taking a bribe of Rs 25,000.

The police said that he was caught red-handed through an investigation drive done by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption while he was taking the said amount at his office in Dispur.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Assam Special DGP GP Singh tweeted, ''Today, Debashis Das, JE, Directorate of Municipal Administration has been caught red-handed by the team of the @DIR_VAC_ASSAM while receiving a bribe of INR 25000 at his office located in Dispur, Guwahati.''

Reportedly, a person named Kirtikamal Tamuli from Tezpur was asked for money by Debashis Das in order to release the fund for the construction of a road in 2020.

Kirtikamal then informed the vigilance wing who after investigation caught him red-handed.

Notably, despite Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma's warning, the government officials are taking bribes.

Earlier, Sarma had warned government officials and told the public to be aware of such people taking bribes and urged them not to give any exceptional money or bribe money to such people.
