Guwahati: Amid ongoing eviction drives across several districts of Assam, residents of the Kahilipara area have submitted a formal letter to the Bhagadatapur police outpost, requesting heightened vigilance to ensure that evicted individuals do not settle in their locality.

In their letter, the citizens cited media reports suggesting that those displaced by the eviction operations have been seeking refuge in various urban and rural pockets of the state. They urged police authorities to remain alert and take preventive measures within the Greater Kahilipara area under the outpost’s jurisdiction.

“We request you to be more vigilant so that no such individuals take shelter in the Greater Kahilipara area under your jurisdiction. We hope you will pursue the matter with top officials,” the letter stated.

The residents clarified that their appeal stems not from hostility but from a desire to maintain law and order. “We are always with Assam Police — which will boost public-police relations,” they added.

The request comes against the backdrop of statewide eviction operations aimed at removing encroachments and alleged illegal settlements. These actions have raised concerns in several localities about a possible influx of displaced people.
