GUWAHATI: Professor Satyakam, Vice Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Prayagraj, emphasized the pivotal role of education in societal development and the importance of inclusive learning. Stressing the role of the teachers in institution-building, he underlined the need for research to strengthen the framework of open universities.
Professor Satyakam said this while delivering the 19th foundation day lecture of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) in the University Auditorium, KKHSOU City Campus, Khanapara, Guwahati.
The event honoured nearly two decades of KKHSOU's commitment to providing accessible education through its open and distance learning mode.
The celebrations began with a floral tribute to Professor Krishna Kanta Handiqui, the visionary academician whose contributions to education in Assam continue to inspire. Distinguished dignitaries were invited to the dais, and a felicitation ceremony was held to honour former vice chancellors who had immensely contributed to the university's growth. Among those felicitated were the founder Vice Chancellor, Professor Srinath Baruah; former Vice Chancellor Dr. Hitesh Deka; and Professor Nripendra Narayan Sarma, the former Vice Chancellor (i/c) and present Director of the Maniram Dewan School of Management at KKHSOU.
Professor Prasenjit Das, chairperson of the organizing committee, in his opening address, highlighted KKHSOU's achievements and its dedication to promoting quality education by stressing what makes KKHSOU an open university in true sense and spirit. This was followed by the welcome speech by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rajendra Prasad Das, who expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the university community, alumni, and stakeholders. He also shared the achievements of the university in recent times.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the registrar i/c, Professor Pranjit Bora, who acknowledged the contributions of all who made this event successful. The day's celebrations extended to a meeting of the Alumni Association and a vibrant cultural programme, which showcased the talents of the university's students and faculty, a press release said.
