The man has been identified as Rintu Baruah, the residence of Bamunimaidam.
Three days back, in a similar incident, a man committed suicide after jumping into the Brahmaputra river on Sunday.
According to eyewitnesses, the youth hung on to the railing of the bridge for around half an hour and kept on saying that he would jump into the river.
''The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the local people, and the city police all made an effort to convince him not to take the drastic step, but the youth eventually jumped into the river,'' the eyewitnesses added.
SDRF sources asserted that after the youth jumped into the river, they tried to save his life by giving life jacket, however, he refused to make use of it and dove inside the water.
