Guwahati Municipal Corporation inspects grocery shops in City

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), on Friday, inspected two grocery shops after receiving public complaints. GMC's joint commissioner Siddhartha Goswami, veterinary officer Pradip Medhi and deputy enforcement officer Khagen Das along with the team of Municipal Corporation Police inspected the shops – Baldev store and Royal Bhandar in Lachit Nagar and Sarania near Kasturba Gandhi Ashram respectively. While Baldeve store was fined Rs. 2,000 for selling groceries without license, Rs. 5,000 fine was imposed on Royal Bhandar for selling essential commodities at inflated rates. Apart from this, a penalty of Rs. 11,500 was imposed on three vans for carrying fish and chicken illegally. The vans were seized by the Bhagaduttapur Police Station, Kahilipara.
