PALASBARI: In a first for the zone, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully pioneered an experimental drone-based cleaning operation at Kamakhya Railway Station, signalling a leap towards modernizing railway sanitation practices.
“This initiative reflects NFR’s dedication to integrating advanced technology in our maintenance efforts. Drone-based cleaning is not only effective and time-saving but also ensures safety by reducing manual interventions in risky areas,” said Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, in a press communique issued.
Officials highlighted that the successful demonstration paves the way for wider adoption of drone-based cleaning across other major stations under the NFR zone. The move aligns with Indian Railways’ broader vision to adopt smart, tech-driven maintenance practices that meet global standards.
“NFR is committed to fostering a cleaner, safer and more efficient railway environment,” Sharma added. “We are proud to lead with such sustainable innovations that improve the experience for both passengers and railway personnel.”
