Guwahati: NFR GM reviews progress of station redevelopment works

GUWAHATI: Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), conducted a detailed inspection of the ongoing redevelopment works at five key stations—North Lakhimpur, Rangapara North, Majbat, Gohpur, and Vishwanath Chariali under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) on May 15, 2025. These stations are among 50 across Assam selected for transformation under the scheme, which is aimed at upgrading infrastructure and enhancing passenger amenities. The redevelopment is set to bring significant upgrades, with an estimated investment of Rs 7.12 crore for North Lakhimpur, Rs 55.17 crore for Rangapara North, Rs 12.04 crore for Majbat, Rs 8.49 crore for Gohpur and Rs 14.07 crore for Vishwanath Chariali. Altogether, 92 stations under the NFR’s jurisdiction are set to be redeveloped through ABSS, with a focus on providing state-of-the-art facilities and improving the overall travel experience for passengers.

During the inspection, the general manager reviewed the progress of station redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), emphasising quality, timely completion and safety. He highlighted the scheme’s focus on improved passenger amenities, modern facilities and better aesthetics. Interacting with officials, he urged faster execution with minimal disruption to passenger services, appreciated the ongoing efforts and stressed maintaining momentum to meet deadlines.

The general manager also inspected the Sub-Divisional Railway Hospital at Rangapara North, where he inaugurated a state-of-the-art CR System X-Ray Machine, significantly boosting the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities. Additionally, he conducted a window trailing inspection between North Lakhimpur and Rangapara North to assess track and operational conditions.

The redevelopment of these stations aims to enhance the travel experience for passengers while advancing the broader vision of transforming Indian Railways into a world-class transportation service. This initiative not only focuses on modernising infrastructure and amenities but also emphasises sustainability, accessibility and the integration of smart technologies to ensure efficient, safe and inclusive railway services for all, a press release.
