Guwahati: Touch of Humanity – Let’s Be Human, a Guwahati-based registered NGO, has urged Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to initiate the process for including ‘Borduwa Than’ in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.

In a memorandum to the CM, the organization highlighted Borduwa Than’s immense cultural, architectural, and historical significance, asserting that it meets key UNESCO criteria for cultural heritage recognition.

The NGO proposed a four-step roadmap: inclusion in Assam’s Tentative List of World Heritage Sites, a preliminary UNESCO assessment, preparation of a detailed nomination dossier, and final submission to UNESCO’s advisory bodies.

According to the memorandum, UNESCO inscription would provide global recognition, access to conservation resources, and boost tourism-led economic growth. A comprehensive management plan, including conservation measures, community involvement, and sustainable tourism practices, was also proposed to safeguard the site’s integrity.

“We believe Borduwa Than has the potential to become a global symbol of Assam’s heritage,” the organization stated.

Associated with rich traditions and historical relevance, ‘Borduwa Than’ is a cultural landmark of Assam. If accepted, it would join the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage Sites, further elevating the state’s cultural prominence.
