Guwahati: In a major push towards shaping Assam’s future, NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Transformation and Development Department and the State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA), Assam, launched a two-day workshop titled “Viksit Assam @ 2047” in Guwahati today. The event, held aims to formulate a strategic roadmap for the state’s inclusive and sustainable development in alignment with the national vision of a developed India by 2047.
The inaugural session opened with a welcome address by Ranjan Sharma, Special Commissioner & Secretary of the Transformation and Development Department. He stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in crafting Assam’s developmental framework.
Assam’s Chief Secretary, Dr. Ravi Kota, in his remarks, highlighted the collective vision for a prosperous, equitable, and resilient Assam. He identified key focus areas such as quality education, accessible healthcare, community development, sustainable agriculture, and technological innovation.
Dr. Neelam Patel, Project Director for Assam at NITI Aayog, presented an overview of Vision Assam 2047, underscoring the need for a coordinated approach to achieving economic growth, social equity, and technological advancement.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Vinod Paul, Member of NITI Aayog, emphasized Assam’s strategic role in India’s developmental journey. He highlighted the state’s youthful demographic, rich natural resources, and the growing momentum of women-led development as catalysts for inclusive growth. Prof. Paul also pointed to the transformative role of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence in revolutionizing education and economic systems in the region.
Dr. O.P. Agarwal, Distinguished Fellow at NITI Aayog, conducted a SWOT analysis of Assam and urged stakeholders to address existing challenges while leveraging growth opportunities through a forward-thinking approach.
Day one of the workshop featured interactive sessions on a range of sectors, including the state’s economic outlook, tourism growth, innovations in food and horticulture, sustainable aquaculture, MSME development, and the promotion of handicrafts and local entrepreneurship.
