GUWAHATI: The Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) has issued a directive after discovering that several mining units across the state have been operating in violation of environmental regulations. According to an official statement, these mining units commenced operations without obtaining the mandatory District Survey Report (DSR) approval, a prerequisite set by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India.
The board clarified that the Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO) were granted to these units on the condition that no mining activity should begin unless the DSR for the respective district had been properly finalized and approved by the competent district authority. Any mining operation initiated before receiving this approval is considered a direct violation of the consent order.
As a consequence of these breaches, the board warned that violators could face strict legal action. This includes suspension or revocation of their Consent to Operate, the imposition of environmental compensation, and possible prosecution under the prevailing environmental laws.
