GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police uncovered an illicit liquor operation in the city's Uzan Bazar area, allegedly run by Dhan Das, the father of a serving Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Assam. The bust came following a tip-off from a source.  Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Amitabh Basumatary, stated, "We received credible information from Dhan Das's daughter, who is an APS officer. She had previously attempted several times to convince her father to quit his unlawful trade and had even offered him financial support in hopes of a positive change."

Despite warnings from both family members and local law enforcement, Das allegedly continued operating the bootlegging business, reportedly with assistance from his second wife. A raid conducted at his residence led to the seizure of a significant quantity of foreign liquor bottles.

"The APS officer has made it clear that she has no involvement in the racket and has cooperated fully with the investigation," DCP Basumatary added.

Legal action under the provisions of the Assam Excise Act is being initiated against Das, and further investigation into the extent of the operation is ongoing.
