Guwahati Police Busts Theft Racket, Stolen Goods Worth Rs. 20 Lakh Seized

The search operation took place near the GMC Market in Fancy Bazar, where authorities seized a substantial quantity of stolen items.

GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, Guwahati Police busted a major theft racket on March 20 and arrested three people said to be receivers of stolen items. Pan Bazar Police Station carried out the operation in collaboration with the Fancy Bazar Outpost, under the watch of the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).

According to an official from the Pan Bazar police station, the search operation took place near the GMC Market in Fancy Bazar, where authorities seized a substantial quantity of stolen items.

The arrested suspects were identified as Manoj Kumar Sarda, a resident of Rajasthan, who was reportedly operating from Fancy Bazar, along with Chutun Rout from Bihar and Damodar Pandey, also from Rajasthan. A senior police official confirmed the arrests and stated that further investigations are ongoing.

During the raid, police recovered a wide array of stolen goods, including copper wires, brass utensils, copper jugs, plates, urns and glasses. Additionally, the seizure included electric wires, AC copper pipes, aluminum bars, iron vehicle components, large pots, buckets and various aluminium square articles.

After the first set of arrests, police raided a godown at Dhirenpara within the Fatasil Ambari Police Station's jurisdiction. In this raid, additional copper wires, copper AC pipes, batteries, aluminum electric cables utilized by APDCI, brass utensils, and miscellaneous iron and aluminum materials were recovered. The investigation is ongoing as officials attempt to unravel the extent of the theft operation.
