GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police have filed charge sheet against Rajkanya Baruah, the model who injured nine PWD labourers after she rammed her car into them on the night of October 1. The charge sheet has come at a time when Rajkanya's bail plea is up for hearing. Filing of charge sheet means Rajkanya has been formally accused of having committed the offence. Rajkanya was arrested on October 7, five days after the accident. Her arrest happened after the entire case snowballed into a big controversy following bail granted to her by the police within hours of the accident that resulted in one man losing his legs. Rajkanya was allegedly returning from an event held at Taj Vivanta in an inebriated condition when she hit nine labourers at Rukminigaon with her car. After the incident, the Kamrup (metro) district administration issued a show-cause notice to Taj Vivanta to submit CCTV camera footage and the guest list of the event held on October 1.
The hotel management was asked to specify the timings of the event and details about the guests and organizers. It has been alleged that the event continued till late at night, violating COVID protocol and curfew timings.
