GUWAHATI: In a major operation, a joint team of Guwahati Police from Panbazar Police Station and Fancy Bazar Outpost seized and recovered a massive quantity of stolen materials near GMC Market in Fancy Bazar. The recovered items include 76 kg of copper wires, eight copper jugs, 51 copper plates, 80 copper ghotis (35 kg), 64 copper glass (10 kg), 161 kg of miscellaneous brass utensils, 54 brass pots (Bati, 14 kg), 15 brass Soria (9 kg), six kg of electric wires, nine kg of AC copper pipes, 80 kg of aluminium bars, 37 kg of aluminium small bars, 40 kg of iron materials (vehicle parts), four big pots (three silver, one aluminium), seven buckets (five brass, two aluminium), and 20 kg of aluminium square articles. ADCP Guwahati (Central) said, “We received a tip-off that a large quantity of brass materials had been stolen in South Kamrup, and we suspect that the materials we have recovered are indeed the stolen items. This appears to be a large-scale supplier operation, which not only supplies stolen brass materials to local buyers but also exports them to Delhi. The modus operandi of the operation involves selling the stolen materials to small scrap dealers, who in turn sell them to market workers. We have arrested three individuals in connection with the case and are conducting further investigations into the matter.” A follow-up operation at Dhirenpara (Fatasil Ambari Police Station) led to the recovery of additional stolen goods, including 468 kg of copper wires, 76 kg of copper AC pipes, 5 batteries, 7.95 kg of aluminium electric cables (APDCL), 261 kg of brass metal utensils, and 410 kg of miscellaneous iron/aluminium articles.

The police have apprehended three individuals in connection with the theft identified as Manoj Kumar Sarda (50) from Churu, Rajasthan; Chutun Rout (44) from Motihari, Bihar; and Damodar Pandey (48) from Churu, Rajasthan. Legal action has been initiated against the accused. The total value of the recovered stolen goods is estimated to be around Rs 18-20 lakh.
