Guwahati Refinery Observes 51st National Safety Day

The programme began with the unfurling of National Safety Day flag by SP Singh, Executive Director & Refinery Head, Guwahati Refinery.

Guwahati: Reiterating the significance of safety for an industry as well as for the overall well-being of all associated with it, the 51st National Safety Day was observed in a befitting manner at Guwahati Refinery on Friday, stated a press release.

The programme began with the unfurling of National Safety Day flag by SP Singh, Executive Director & Refinery Head, Guwahati Refinery, which was followed by a brief deliberation of the various programmes organized by the Fire & Safety department during the observance from February 23 to March 3.

On the occasion, all the participants took the Safety Pledge for further reaffirming their commitment towards safety. The programme was attended by GK Goyari, Chief General Manager (Technical Services & Health, Safety & Environment), PK Basumatary, Chief General Manager (Technical), General Managers, Head Of Departments, security personnel, employees and contractual workers.

Addressing the gathering, SP Singh urged all to make safety the first priority and exhorted them to not compromise it at any cost. Referring to Indian Oil's foremost priority, which is always given to safety, he said that their efforts are always to enhance awareness regarding safety and strict adherence to all safety rules and practices are a must for all to avert any kind of accident. He further congratulated team Guwahati Refinery for maintaining the safety record by achieving a total of 3,508 accident-free days and 1,181 fire-free days till date, and the laurels that have been brought to the unit by winning many awards of national repute in the current year.

The programme also witnessed reading out of the messages of Chairman and Director (Refineries) of Indian Oil. Earlier, Prabhakar Kumar, Chief Manager (Fire & Safety) briefed the gathering about the significance of the observance National Safety Day and highlighted the F&S achievements for the year 2021-22.

In the programme, a skit on safety was performed by a group of employees and contractual workers on the importance of PPEs in ensuring safety. Further, prizes were given away to the winners of various competitions organized during the observance. It may be mentioned that a number of competitions like fire fighting, safety quiz, safety debate, safety presentation on hazard and its preventive measures for employees, online safety quiz, spot the hazard quiz, safety slogan and online road safety quiz etc., were organized during the observance for employees, security personnel, contractual workers and housewives.
