Guwahati: Rising instances of improper parking across Guwahati have sparked frustration among residents and commuters, leading to mounting calls for stricter enforcement and long-term solutions. The persistent issue has resulted in frequent traffic snarls, causing significant inconvenience to the public.
Residents have reported numerous instances of public roads being used as private parking spaces, causing blockages and chaotic traffic conditions. A resident from Hatigaon said, “I live by the main roadside, and it’s extremely difficult to even take my car out because bikes are parked right in front of my entrance. Despite lodging multiple complaints, no action has been taken.”
Several hotspots for illegal parking have been identified throughout the city, further burdening Guwahati’s traffic system. While traffic officials claim to enforce penalties on violators, residents argue that these measures are neither consistent nor effective.
A traffic official commented, “We penalize violators whenever violations are spotted, and our teams regularly monitor critical zones.” However, residents insist on tougher enforcement, increased penalties for repeat offenders, and the creation of dedicated parking zones to address the issue.
