Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Thursday convened a high-level review meeting to assess and accelerate ongoing de-siltation works under Divisions 1, 2, and 4. The initiative aims to mitigate the perennial issue of water-logging and strengthen the city’s flood resilience ahead of the approaching monsoon.
The meeting was chaired by Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania and attended by Deputy Mayor Smita Roy, Commissioner Dr. M S Lakshmi Priya, Joint Commissioner Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Hazarika, senior officials, and councillors.
Discussions focused on intensifying drain and river de-siltation works, addressing logistical hurdles, and ensuring the timely completion of flood-mitigation projects. The GMC leadership emphasized coordinated efforts to ensure Guwahati is monsoon-ready.
Members-in-Council (MIC) and councillors from the concerned divisions actively participated in the deliberations. Councillors seen alongside the Commissioner in a post-meeting group photograph included Junmoni Deka (Ward 34), Manjula Devi (Ward 11), Archana Das (Ward 9), Manju Borah (Ward 14), Geeta Thakuria Kalita (Ward 54), Meghna Hazarika (Ward 36), and Brijesh Roy (Ward 19).
Reaffirming its commitment, the GMC stated that it remains focused on strengthening urban infrastructure and ensuring timely action to safeguard citizens against seasonal flooding and related disruptions.
