Guwahati: RPF recovers contraband items worth more than Rs. 75 lakh in March

Continuing the fight against the transportation of contraband/smuggled goods in trains and stations, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway has recovered contraband goods

GUWAHATI: Continuing the fight against the transportation of contraband/smuggled goods in trains and stations, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway has recovered contraband goods worth more than Rs 75 lakh during the month of March, 2025. RPF also apprehended 18 persons for alleged involvement in the transportation of contraband/smuggled goods during this period.

Moreover, RPF of N. F. Railway is regularly conducting drives to control the menace of touts. In recently conducted checks and drives over the zone during the month of March, 2025, RPF apprehended seven touts and recovered 32 railway tickets worth above Rs. 99,000 from them.

In a recent incident on 24th March, 2025, the RPF of Dimapur conducted a routine check at Dimapur railway station. During the checking, RPF apprehended one person and recovered 10.85 grams of brown sugar worth Rs. 2.17 lakh (approx.). Later, the apprehended person, along with the recovered brown sugar, was handed over to OC/GRP/Dimapur for necessary legal action. Moreover, in an incident on 19th March, 2025, the RPF, CPDS and CIB team of New Jalpaiguri jointly conducted a raid & search operation at PRS Kanki. During the raid, the team recovered 06 PRS tickets worth around Rs. 24,365/- and apprehended one tout in this connection. A case was registered under section 143 of the Railways Act for further course of action, a press release said.
