GUWAHATI: In a major drive to ensure food safety and hygiene, a joint team of officials from the Kamrup district administration, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), and Assam Police conducted a surprise inspection of poultry, fish, and mutton shops in various areas of Guwahati. The team, led by the Assistant Commissioner, Kamrup, and accompanied by veterinary officers and staff, inspected a total of 70 shops in areas such as Chandmari, Bamunimaidan Railway Colony Bazar, Noonmati, Narengi Kalangpar Bazar, and others.
During the inspection, the team found several shops violating hygiene and food safety norms, prompting the imposition of a penalty of Rs. 33,000. The drive was part of a larger effort to ensure that food establishments in the city adhere to proper hygiene and safety standards, protecting the health and well-being of consumers.
