GUWAHATI: The police cracked several theft cases and arrested seven thieves from different places of the state.
A team from Gorchuk Police Station cracked a theft case reported at Jaiswal Steel Rolling Mills in Boragaon. Technical analysis led to the identification and arrest of Surajit Choudhury (21) of Katahbari, a habitual thief who had been released on bail just a day earlier. Based on his lead, a raid was conducted at a scrap yard in Jyotikuchi Dhopoliya, run by Sanidul Islam (21). Two others — Md Anwar Hussain (27) of Rakkusuni and Md Fajal Houque (20) of Alupotti — were also apprehended.
The police seized several stolen items, including an electric water pump, 330 kg of electrical wire, 18 small batteries, an Exide power battery, etc.
A team from Gorchuk Police Station acted on intelligence input and apprehended bike lifter Bishal Boro, alias Bishal Rongpi (23), of Dakhingaon near ISBT.
A stolen Scooty (AS01DY1451), lifted from near Shankar Dhaba, was recovered from his possession. He confessed his crime before the police.
Another team from Dispur Police Station nabbed habitual burglar Akhtar Ali (30) of Nagaon while he was transporting ten stolen copper wires to a scrap yard in Nine Mile.
A follow-up raid at the yard, owned by Manuwara Begum (38), led to the recovery of more unaccounted copper wires. Both are in custody.
