Guwahati: As Guwahati battles soaring temperatures, erratic weather, and water-logging, the Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden has stepped up efforts to protect its animal inhabitants from the sweltering summer heat.

Zoo officials revealed that electric fans, coolers, and even air conditioners have been installed in selected enclosures to ensure the comfort of the animals. “A large bathtub has been built for the tigers—now all seven of them can enjoy cool baths throughout the day. We’ve also introduced showers to provide further relief,” an official said.

Meanwhile, Guwahati residents are grappling with a dual crisis of extreme heat and heavy monsoon rains that have led to severe waterlogging across several parts of the city, disrupting transportation and daily life. The Assam State Zoo’s proactive measures offer a glimmer of relief amid the ongoing weather extremes, underlining the importance of timely interventions for animal welfare.
