Guwahati: Thieves arrested, stolen items recovered by police

Guwahati: In a swift crackdown, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) has solved multiple theft and burglary cases within 24 hours, making significant arrests across the city and nearby regions.

In the first case, Basistha Police arrested Ali Hussain (27) of Khanka, Hatigaon for a burglary reported from Ghoramara. Stolen items recovered from his possession include a gold ring, two silver chains, a VIVO mobile phone (bought with stolen money), a black T-shirt, a pair of slippers, and a Gamosa used during the crime. Legal proceedings have been initiated. In a separate operation, acting on specific inputs, the Basistha Police team also conducted a raid at Kheropara, Sesapani in Goalpara and apprehended two seasoned vehicle lifters. Nur Alom alias Rahul Bora (32) of Rangjuli was arrested first. Based on his interrogation, another accused, Hillsmart Sangma (21) of Mendipathar, Meghalaya, was also nabbed. Efforts are underway to trace and recover the stolen vehicle.  In another incident, Dispur Police apprehended two thieves, Soleman alias Ratul (20) of Satgaon and Khairul Haque alias Bhola (22) of Nowapara, for stealing copper wires and bell metal items. The stolen goods were seized from their possession, and legal action has been initiated.
