Guwahati: The BJP-AJP alliance which emerged with flying colours in the recently held Guwahati Municipal Election (GMC), will elect its mayor and deputy mayor after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Assam on Thursday.
The party will begin ward-wise surveys to identify the major issues without any delay so that those can be resolved on a priority basis.
''We all have been aware of the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state on Thursday and inaugurate seven cancer hospitals. It will be a remarkable day for all. After his visit, the party leadership, workers and the winning candidates will together and will appoint a mayor,'' said Bhabesh Kalita while speaking to the media persons on Monday.
He further said that the party has made commitments and will work on that.
''The people of the city have already seen and understood that the present government fulfills its commitments,'' he added.
He also claimed that the city will witness a major change in terms of development in the coming years under the BJP's rule in the state.
According to reports, it has come to the fore that GMC mayor Mrigen Sarania, who has won the election from ward no 29, stands first in the queue to get the seat again.
On Sunday, BJP and its alliance AJP grabbed 58 out of 60 wards while the Aam Aadmi Party one ward.
