GUWAHATI: The inauguration of the new Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Guwahati, Assam is scheduled for January 1, 2025. On Sunday, Assam's Minister of Transport, Jogen Mohan, visited the construction site of the new Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Khanapara, Guwahati.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to inaugurate the terminal on January 1, 2025. According to officials, the terminal features modern amenities, such as a waiting room, a designated area for lactating mothers, and food stalls. The terminal will also improve the passenger experience by providing night bus services and a guest house for overnight stays.
In addition, 60 new electric buses will be launched in Guwahati on January 1, serving new routes that have been finalized in consultation with the district administration. The official stated that the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) will oversee the operation of these buses to ensure smooth functioning.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Transport Department's "Raijor Sewa Raijor Podulit" programme was inaugurated at the New Guwahati Co-District Office on Friday. The programme was inaugurated by Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Commissioner said that with the purchase of new vehicles, people no longer need to visit the Transport Department's office for documentation. The state government had taken steps to enable people to complete all tasks online from the comfort of their homes. People with experience using social media could now avail themselves of over 55 services related to vehicles from home.
The Transport Department's office in Kamrup Metropolitan District, had also set a goal to take its services to the people and assist them. The department had introduced the "Raijor Sewa Raijor Podulit" programme to resolve issues related to vehicle documentation, tax payment, and fitness permits.
