GUWAHATI: Under the Government of India’s initiative, a four-day training programme on natural farming commenced today at the Directorate of Agriculture Khanapara, Guwahati. The programme is being organised at the courtesy of Central Agricultural University, Imphal, with support from the Directorate of Agriculture.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr P. Uday Praveen, Director of Agriculture, Assam, who formally inaugurated the training as the Chief Guest. Other notable guests included Shri Nripen Chandra Das, Director of Horticulture and Food Processing; Dr Ramani Thakuria, Director of Open and Distance Learning, Assam Agricultural University; Shri Rajiv Bhuyan, Director of State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI); Anupam Gogoi, Deputy Director of Agriculture and the Nodal Officer for Natural Farming Mission; and Dr N. Surbala Devi, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Central Agricultural University, Imphal.
Notably, the training programme features participation from senior officials from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, nodal officers from selected districts, scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and selected farmer-trainers. The main objective of the programme is to equip participants with in-depth technical and practical knowledge of natural farming methods so they can raise awareness and promote these practices among farmers. It is expected that this programme will play a vital role in the promotion and implementation of natural farming across the entire northeastern region.
