Golap Kumar Das, a retired Man aging Director of AEGCL passed away on April 30 in Guwahati. He was a good friend of mine. It is known to all that the etymology of word ‘friend’ connects its meaning with love, freedom and choice which was exactly reflected between us. It was late 80s when a group of friends met frequently at Ganeshguri chariali blossomed into an enduring bond among a group of friends, mostly engineers, with Golap becoming a special companion as our friendship evolved into familial connection that intertwined our lives. I always stood next to him in any of his crises he faced. That friendship continued till his death.

Golap kumar Das born near Auniati Satra of majuli and did his schooling from Jorhat. He joined Assam Engineering College in 1977 and a passed out student in Mechanical engineering. He choosed his career as Assistant Engineer in the undivided ASEB and rose to a position of Managing Director, AEGCL by virtue of his good reputation in departmental task. He was a soft spoken person but always extended help to a needy one during his service at ASEB. He was a dedicated and sincere worker for which he earned everybody’s respect and always cooperated by his colleagues.

On the occasion of his Adyashraddha, I pry to the Almighty to bless his departed soul with eternal peace.
