Guwahati: Police have arrested a second accused in connection with the sensational murder that shook Hengrabari on Wednesday night. A day after apprehending prime accused Dev Deka, police on Thursday nabbed Ankur Patowary for his alleged involvement in the crime.
According to police, Dev Deka fatally stabbed his uncle Anil Deka multiple times on a busy road in Hengrabari, reportedly over a land dispute. Ankur, who was staying as a tenant at Dev Deka’s residence, is suspected to have assisted in the crime.
The injured Anil Deka was rushed to a private Hospital in a critical condition but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Investigations suggest that Dev had a long-standing feud with his uncle over property matters and had previously attempted to harm his wife as well.
After committing the crime, Dev fled to the educational institution he owns in the city. He later returned to the crime scene, where his suspicious behaviour drew the attention of police. Dispur Police promptly detained him and launched a full-scale investigation. Officials suspect that the fatal attack stemmed from a prolonged family conflict linked to land ownership. Further probe is underway.
