Guwahati: ULFA cadre Jahnu Barua, alias Arnab Axom, had been residing in a rented house in the Hengerabari area in Guwahati and working as a Rapido driver.
Barua rented the house owned by Jagadish Patgiri, former secretary general of the Axam Xahitya Xabha. However, the ULFA cadre reportedly left for his hometown during the Puja and did not return.
In the meantime, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Jahnu Barua on December 16 at Dibrugarh in connection with the August 15 IED planting. Investigations revealed his involvement in planting explosives in multiple locations, including Panbazar, Dispur, Gandhi Mandap, and Satgaon areas.
Incriminating materials, including digital devices, were seized and are currently under examination. After the search, Baruah was brought in for further questioning at a local police facility. During the initial probe, Baruah accepted that he had planted four of the 11 IEDs discovered by the Assam police on the eve of the celebrations.
