GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident, a well-known female rider from Uttarakhand named “Rider Noni” fell victim to theft in Guwahati. The thieves stole the bike (UP 13 BW 7075) of rider Noni on March 5. The incident highlighted the city’s vulnerability to crimes.
Noni, who covered over 30,000 km across various states promoting women’s empowerment, arrived in Guwahati on March 4.
The theft occurred around 2 a.m. on March 6 at Maddy’s Guest House on Kali Mandir Road, Sarusajai. Noni took to social media, urging authorities, including Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam Police and City Police, to take swift action. In a heartfelt video, she expressed her distress, saying, “I am in Guwahati, Assam, and my bike has been stolen. For those who don’t know, I am Rider Noni. I left home six months ago and have covered over 30,000 km across India, promoting women’s empowerment. It’s shocking that after travelling across half the country, my bike was stolen as soon as I entered Guwahati, Assam.”
Noni, who began her journey on September 10 last year, had planned to conduct awareness campaigns in the Northeast. However, with her motorcycle missing, her journey has come to a standstill. “This incident has hit me hard. Only I know the struggles I faced in financing this journey and making it happen. That’s why I need everyone’s support. Please spread this message to Assam Police and Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. We have already lodged a police complaint,” she added.
In this regard, DCP (East) Mrinal Deka informed the media, “We are actively looking into the bike theft that was reported to us at Basistha PS yesterday. This incident has also sparked a lot of speculation on social media.”
