GUWAHATI: Various organisations and institutions celebrated World Environment Day in Guwahati today.
"Environmental preservation demands a convergence of academic rigour and practical expertise. Through the partnership, we are creating a dynamic platform where shared expertise and innovative research can directly confront the environmental challenges faced by our region," said Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor, during the World Environment Day celebrations on Thursday.
Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University: As part of the community outreach initiative of Krishna KantaHandiqui State Open University, the Mother Teresa Social Welfare Mission of the university commemorated World Environment Day with a day-long programme at one of its adopted villages, Puran Sukurberia, on June 5, 2025. The event was held at Puran Sukurberia LP School and witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students, their parents, and residents of the surrounding areas.
RMC: The Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 with the theme “Putting an End to Plastic Pollution.”
The programme began with a sapling plantation drive, where the officials planted native trees to promote greenery and environmental awareness. A cleanliness drive followed, focusing on removing plastic waste from the Centre's premises and surrounding areas.
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited: To mark World Environment Day, the employees of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Guwahati office, organized a plantation ceremony at Bishnu Rabha Udayan Park, Odalbakra, and Kahilipara on June 5, 2025. The event aimed at reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility and sustainability.
DISPUR COLLEGE: Dispur College, in collaboration with the Kamrup District Senior Citizens' Conference, celebrated World Environment Day on June 5 with great enthusiasm. Renowned writer Baneswar Khaund delivered the keynote speech, where he spoke about the importance of environmental awareness and sustainable development.
First Bn SSB: World Environment Day was observed by 1st Bn SSB, Sonapur, under the guidance of Sh. Sunil Kaushik, Commandant, 1st Bn SSB. The day has been observed with great enthusiasm, with a series of events organised to raise awareness about environmental conservation and sustainable living.
