Health department distributes engagement letters under National Health Mission, Assam

GUWAHATI: In an attempt to provide better healthcare services to the people of Assam, the Health Department on Friday distributed engagement letters to 400 Surveillance workers and 728 Staff nurses under National Health Mission, Assam. The ceremonial launch of the event was held in GMCH Auditorium on Friday. The Chief Guest of the event was Minister of Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Addressing the occasion, Sarma described the various health schemes currently offered by the state Health department along with their success stories. He further stated that every year the State government has been successfully generating employment for all the GNM students and this year too they have succeeded in giving appointment to the fresh GNM students.

He also stated about the various medical colleges that have come up in the state and with each medical college there will employment opportunities for the young generation. "Before the year 2025, most of the districts in Assam will have a medical college and every year two new government hospitals will be opened in each of the district headquarters. The government had decided to set up 19 cancer hospitals and construction of 9 hospitals is already underway", Sarma said.

Speaking about the success of NHM (National Health Mission) in Assam, the minister said, "Since 2016 in Health sector of Assam, 400 specialist doctors, 900 MBBS doctors, 290 Ayurvedic doctors, 113 Dental Surgeons, 3000 Staff Nurses and 5000 ANM nurses, 196 Pharmacists, 55 Lab Technicians, 209 Community Health Officers, 152 Paramedical Staff and 676 Management Staff have been appointed."

Among other dignitaries present at the event include, Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare Samir K. Sinha, Director of Health Services Dr. Rathindra Bhuyan, Director of Medical Education Dr. Anup Barman, Superintendent GMCH Dr Ramen Talukdar and Executive Director NHM of Assam Dr. A.C Baishya.
