Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warns a group of quarantined people

GUWAHATI: Reacting to a group of people quarantined in the quarantine centre at Sarusajai stadium here raising questions live on Facebook on Tuesday over the food being served to them and the extension of their quarantine period, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has warned them that if they continue to agitate without cooperating with the government this quarantine centre will be converted into a jail for them.

Himanta Biswa Sarma and his deputy Pijush Hazarika met the group of people, who raised questions on the Facebook, on Wednesday and discussed the matter with them. After the meeting, Sarma told the media, “If these people keep on agitating without cooperating with the government, we’ll have to declare this quarantine centre a temporary jail for three months under non-bailable sections. We don’t have any enmity with them. We’ve quarantined them for the wellbeing of the public.” The Minister said that if these people are allowed to go home, their parents and other family members will get infected.

The Minister asked the doctors and the police officers on duty in the quarantine centre to discuss the matter with the group. He also asked to doctors not to be afraid of if the quarantined people raise any hue and cry. “Because they’ve been brought here for their wellbeing,” he said.
