GUWAHATI: Debabrata Saikia, leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, demanded the government to institute a commission to inquire into the water supply projects in the city headed by a retired judge.
Saikia has pointed out various questions where he said, “Two major water pipe bursts were reported where one person died and some got injured, public and private property were damaged. This is a serious issue.” Further he said, “Are these projects running smoothly, or are they having any kind of technical anomalies. Are there any financial discrepancies in the implementation of these projects. These projects are to be examined at an immediate cost.”
He further said, “Are these projects constructed and implemented according to SOPs (standard operating procedure). For instance, if they are working under SOPs, then there should be inspections by a third party to examine the work. So, an inquiry commission should be formed to probe into this matter.”
