GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police has announced that the cameras with the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) will be active during the ongoing Durga Puja season and asked the citizens to adhere to the traffic regulations.
Addressing a press meet in Guwahati, Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah mentioned that the traffic conditions will be continuously monitored via 61 Internet Protocol (IP) cameras that have been deployed across the city. The Integrated Traffic Management System utilises these cameras to enable complete surveillance of the roads and analysis of the camera feeds. He advised the drivers and passengers of two-wheelers to use helmets at all times and the drivers of four-wheelers to use seat belts. He also warned the public against violating the traffic signals and mentioned that strict action would be taken. He added that penalties will be imposed on the violators within 24 hours of the violations, and they will receive notifications on their registered mobile numbers.
Diganta Barah also requested that the public exercise caution while driving during these festival days to ensure the safety of both drivers and pedestrians. He also asked the public to follow the traffic regulations that have been issued by the Traffic Police for the Durga Puja days, including the diversion of traffic.
It was also notified that about Rs 15,00,000 is collected per day from traffic rule violators after the ITMS was activated.
