Guwahati: The Kamrup Metro district administration has issued a seven-day eviction notice targeting large-scale encroachments at Adingiri Hills in Guwahati, citing violations of forest laws and unauthorized occupation of protected land.
The notice, served to both the Forest Department and residents—including those residing near a Madrassa and mosque in the Sunrise locality of Kudratpur—directs immediate vacation of the premises. Officials warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period will result in a full-scale eviction drive, which may involve the use of bulldozers and forcible dismantling of structures, including the removal of doors and other installations.
District officials said the eviction action is being taken under Sections 24 and 25 of the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891, which prohibit encroachment and destruction within reserved forest areas.
“We have identified multiple violations and illegal structures within the reserved forest zone. These actions threaten the ecological balance and violate established forest conservation laws,” a senior official from the district administration said.
The administration has made it clear that any non-compliance will trigger forcible eviction measures within a week from the issuance of the notice.
Meanwhile, security preparations are reportedly underway to ensure law and order are maintained during the anticipated operation. Authorities are also coordinating with the Forest Department and police to carry out the drive efficiently and within legal bounds.
